Monthly Chef’s Selection Menu

It’s been two years since Bernini Honolulu, opened their doors on Waimanu Street. During these two years, the staff at Bernini has had the pleasure of serving locals and visitors from all over the world award-winning, authentic Italian dishes. To celebrate their 2nd anniversary, Bernini proudly announces a special monthly Chef’s Selection menu which will begin on April 16th, the actual date that marks their anniversary.
For the April Chef’s Selection, a variety of locally grown fresh vegetables such as beets and kale will be incorporated into the dishes. One of the menu’s antipasto dishes includes lightly sautéed scallops infused with thyme topped with a puréed white kidney bean sauce. The featured menu will also include Bernini’s popular, ‘Chicken Liver Pâté.’
“We’ve been very fortunate to have a great deal of support and patronage from our customers and the community. It gives me much joy that we are able to celebrate our 2nd anniversary with the kick-off of this month’s Chef’s selection menu. It is my hope that many of our current and new customers will be able to try it,” said owner Motoyo Koyata.

Bernini Honolulu established its catering division, Catering M by Bernini Honolulu, to offer the restaurant’s signature authentic contemporary Italian cuisine and superb service at the event or venue of the customers’ choice.
The menus of Catering M by Bernini Honolulu are designed to accommodate the customer’s needs. The Cocktail Party Menu is for the casual home party and for those who would like to cook their own dishes but still enjoy a taste of the Bernini Menu. The Party Menu features appetizers as well as some of the more popular Bernini dishes such as the Tagliata (Grilled Angus Beef Steak with Balsamic Reduction on a Bed of Arugula from Nalo Farms) and the homemade Tiramisu. A Bernini Chef will create a custom and personalized dinner menu using the finest and freshest seasonal ingredients for the Bernini Premium Dinner Menu. This first-rate menu calls for a live display of the chef’s cooking skills for the customer and his/her guests.
“The Party Menu is highly recommended for the customer who would like to enjoy our authentic Italian dinners at their private venue. In Hawaii we often get together with friends and family in casual settings and for that we’ve created the Cocktail Party Menu which can turn such a gathering into a lovely Italian dinner,” said the owner, Motoyo Koyata.
The Bernini chefs and staff draw out the natural and best tasting flavors from only the finest ingredients and the freshest locally grown produce to serve authentic contemporary Italian dishes.

Bernini Honolulu, an authentic contemporary Italian restaurant, was awarded for the category of “Critic’s Pick” at the recent ‘Ilima Awards. This is the second consecutive year Bernini Honolulu was awarded the ‘Ilima Award.
The ‘Ilima Awards has been sponsored by the former Honolulu Advertiser and current Honolulu Star-Advertiser since 2002. There are two sides to the restaurant category, selected by critics and readers. The critic’s picks are composed of five local notable food critics.
“Hawaii is a chef’s paradise, there’s an abundance of seafoods and seasonal fruits as well as other fresh produce. Other products which we cannot obtain in Hawaii, such as truffles, can be imported from Italy. This allows me to come up with new menu ideas daily,” said Chef Tomokazu Fukuda. “We are very honored to receive the ‘Ilima Award again this year. We keep striving to serve authentic Italian dishes for our customers to enjoy in a warm and comfortable atmosphere,” said the owner, Motoyo Koyata.

Bernini Honolulu has been serving authentic contemporary Italian dishes since it opened its doors in April 2011. After 10 months in business, the newly revised menu debuted earlier this month.
Featured within the revised menu is the “Marinated Shrimp and Steamed Chicken Infused with Dill on Shredded Green Papaya.” A cold antipasti with juicy and moist chicken, the shredded green papaya is a refreshing condiment that heightens the flavor of the shrimp and chicken. Also added is the “Boscaiora,” a linguine pasta dish with porcini mushrooms and homemade sausage. Served hot, al-dente linguine is topped with a savory medley of prochini mushrooms, our homemade sausage and a light cream sauce.
“We are very happy to introduce our new menu created our chefs. ‘Prosciutto e Mascarpone’ pizza has been a popular daily special and now we will be featuring it on our regular menu for our guests to enjoy anytime they wish. We would like to keep introducing authentic Italian dishes using fresh local ingredients in the near future,” said the owner, Motoyo Koyata.

Bernini Honolulu, an authentic contemporary Italian restaurant, was awarded for the category “Best New Restaurant – Critic’s Choice” at the recent ‘Ilima Awards.
The ‘Ilima Awards have been sponsored by then Honolulu Advertiser and current Honolulu Star-Advertiser since 2002. There are two sides for best restaurant categories, critic’s choice and reader’s choice. The critic’s choice is chosen by the five notable food critics in Hawaii.

Grand Opening: Authentic Contemporary Italian Restaurant “Bernini Honolulu”

14 years ago, Chef Kengo Matsumoto opened his first restaurant “Bernini” in Azabu Juban, Tokyo, after his culinary training in Northern Italy. Bernini is renowned for its authentic Italian cuisine and attracting the likes of the famous from all over Japan. Following the success of “Bernini”, he opened two more accomplished eateries, “Vinoteca Wagon” and “Pizzeria Romana Bernini” in Ginza.
On Friday, April 15 at 5:30pm, he debuts his first restaurant “Bernini Honolulu” in Hawaii with co-owner, Motoyo Koyata. The new contemporary Italian eatery will show case his skills and experience that he has refined over the years during his tenure overseeing his other restaurants.
Chef Matsumoto’s culinary philosophy is to draw out the natural and best tasting flavors from his ingredients. He and his staff can be found at the local markets frequently to explore and select only the finest of ingredients and the freshest locally grown produce.
“We are very fortunate to have an opportunity to serve authentic contemporary Italian dishes in Honolulu, Hawaii.
